ifelixlife asked:
A gang using easily available software break into a WEP protected wireless network and find out what a surfer has been up to as well as having access to his computer and his internet connection.

WPA is now possible to crack too, under 14 minutes or so. It has to use TKIP encryption however.. If your interest, search up the name Erik Tews.
WPA2 is suggested. So is a password with special characters, and a length of at least 8 characters..

I think True but I was comparing it to a wireless connection.

Yes, but my point was that the internet is so insecure, it doesn’t really matter much what you use to connect to it, because anybody can snoop on you once your packets go out over the net.

You connect to the internet with ethernet too.

Oh, yeah, like there’s anything interesting you can do on a network that only connects to the computers in your house… I suppose you could invite your friends over and have a LAN party, but that’s about it.

I think Use ethernet instead.

I think So if you want to be secure, don’t use the internet! Or make sure your connection is encrypted from your browser to the server on the other end, and make sure you trust that server!

LOL… if you use *WEP* on your wireless network, that’s probably the most secure part of the internet your connection will go through. Consider that once your connection reaches the wireless router, it connects to your ISP’s network, which in turn connects to the big cloud known as the internet. Your packets, with your IP address attached, go over all kinds of networks, most of them unencrypted. Along the way they can run through routers which grab sensitive info and forward it to hackers…

“With the money I spent on my software”!!! You’ve paid for a WEP password?!
If it weren’t for the Nintendo DS, WPA is definitely the way to go.

HELP! Sorry, but I’m a bit of a wireless noob. I just got a laptop and a router and i’ve been using it without a password or encryption. The reason for this is when I initially bought these items I put a WPA encryption with a password, but when my laptop attempted to connect, it said “Could not verify certificate to connect to the wireless network” Also keep it mind that I wasn’t promted to input a password. Using Windows XP
Thanks!

unless its hacked. If you can, use WPA2-AES.

its harder, and if you have to have wireless, you mide as well have the best available protection, even if there is flaws.
